Summer Makeup Hacks
The hot weather has finally graced Atlanta with temperatures soaring in the mid-90s this past week.
Here are suggestions collected from the makeup artists at Fig & Flower to keep your makeup fresh and locked in all day:
1. Skin prep
Start your makeup application with a freshly washed face, then apply a toner. Toners help to remove any leftover makeup or oil and allow the rest of your skincare to absorb into the skin effortlessly. Toners also feel fantastic during the summer as a refreshment post workout or as a setting mist throughout the day. For help finding the best toner for your skin type check out our previous blog post. In the summer it also might be helpful to try out some different skincare products depending on what your skin needs are. For instance you might find that you can use a lighter moisturizer or oil during the summer despite having dry skin normally. For those with oily to combination skin you might opt to try out a gel based moisturizer during the hotter summer months. If you're spending time outdoors it's especially important to apply a product with SPF to finish off your skincare routine.
2. Try out a primer
For those with normal to oily skin, you can try applying a mattifying primer such as this one from 100% Pure all over your face to help control oil production and lock makeup in place. For those with dry skin, try playing around with applying mattifying primer in areas where oil breakthrough tends to happen first such as the t-zone.
3. Layer cream products under powders
If you're a fan of cream blushes you might find that they fade faster in hot weather. To amplify the lifespan of those products, you can first apply your cream products and then follow up with a powder in a similar shade to lock the cream in place. Same goes with eyeshadows and highlighters. We love layering RMS cream highlighters with their new powder highlighters. Talk about all day glow!
4. Embrace more powder
Even if powder is something you don't normally use, try playing around with applying it in the t-zone or areas you have excess oil production. For those with normal to oily skin, apply powder all over the face to lock in your look and prevent product separation. Even if your skin leans more on the dry skin, powder on the skin warms up throughout the day to create a smooth and radiant complexion. We have a few translucent powders as well as tinted to fit any skin tone.
